Kennedy and Rubio Introduce Resolution to Block Federal Subsidies to Abortion Providers – Press releases

WASHINGTON — Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) today joined Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and more than 30 other senators in introducing a joint resolution under the Congressional Review Act to reverse the Biden administration’s 2021 final rule on the Title X Family Planning Program, which reversed the Trump administration’s 2019 ban on federal funding to entities that provide abortion referrals to pregnant mothers.

The 2019 rule did not reduce Title X funding, but redirected it to providers who do not perform or promote abortions as part of their “family planning” practices.

“The Trump administration did the right thing by banning Title X dollars from funding abortion. Sadly, President Biden has decided to reverse this ban and send taxpayer dollars to help smother innocent lives in the womb. I am proud to join Senator Rubio in working to reverse President Biden’s unilateral decision so that we can protect the unborn life and conscience of Americans,” said Kennedy.

“The regime of the Biden administration is an attack on the most sacred and fundamental human right, the right to life. I will continue to protect the sanctity of life and do everything I can to ensure taxpayer dollars are not used for or promote abortion,” said Rubio.

The Congressional Review Act allows Congress to override certain regulations and actions of a federal agency through a joint resolution of disapproval. If such a joint resolution is approved by both houses of Congress and signed by the president, or if Congress successfully overrides a presidential veto, the rule in question becomes invalid.

Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-Texas) introduced the resolution in the House.

The text of the resolution is available here.
