Mid-Ohio Valley agencies receive federal grants | News, Sports, Jobs

CHARLESTON — Nine grants have been awarded to area organizations under the federal Justice Assistance Grants program.

Forty-two statewide projects have received a share of the $1.2 million available to help state agencies, local government units and private nonprofits implement programs that offer a high probability of improving the functioning of the criminal justice system. Particular emphasis has been placed on multi-jurisdictional projects and statewide projects that seek to create or retain jobs in the criminal justice system in West Virginia, according to the governor’s office.

The money is provided by the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Office of Justice Support and is administered by the Justice and Community Services Section of the West Virginia Division of Administrative Services .

The local projects were:

* Calhoun County Commission, $15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position assigned to Calhoun County Middle School/High School.

* Doddridge County Commission, $30,000 to support prevention resource officers assigned to elementary, middle and high schools in Doddridge County.

* City of Ravenswood, $15,000 This to support the Prevention Resource Officer position assigned to Ravenswood High School.

* Town of Ripley, $15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position assigned to Ripley High School.

* Pleasants County Commission, $15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position assigned to St. Marys High School.

* Roane County Commission, $15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position assigned to Roane County High School.

* City of Vienna, $15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position assigned to Jackson Middle School.

* City of Vienna, $25,000 for officer salaries to maintain a multi-jurisdictional drug and violent crime task force.

* City of Williamstown, $15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position assigned to Williamstown High School.

*Wood County Commission, $15,000 to support the Prevention Resource Officer position assigned to Blennerhassett Middle School.
